Let’s face it, weddings aren’t cheap, but there are ways you can reduce cost. One major way to reduce cost is to do your own décor instead of buying it or having a designer do it. Now that’s not possible for everything, but for items such as flowers, programs, favors or centerpieces it is.

My friend Rebecca got married last year, she is an event planner and very budget conscious, and so she took it upon herself to do the majority of your décor, favors and programs. She created the bouquets for herself, her bridesmaids, flower girls and the boutonnieres for the groomsmen. She purchased flowers from Hobby Lobby and found inspiration online to help her.

My brother got married last summer, my brother and sister-in-law wanted to keep everything including the honeymoon under $10,000 which they succeeded at, thanks to help from family. My sister-in-law’s mom created all of the centerpieces. Erin, my sister-in-law bought her flowers and vases from the Dollar Store and her mom put them together. She saved a lot of money by just using silk flowers instead of real ones.

If you prefer real flowers and don’t want to use all silk flowers, you can save money by using silk flowers for your centerpieces and using real ones for your bridal bouquets and boutonnieres. One of our brides is using a really creative flower, she and her family are taking crepe paper and rolling them, gluing them and creating bouquets to put in vases as centerpieces for the reception. They are beautiful! Also from far away they look just like real roses.
