My apologies for not blogging in a while!
A couple of weeks ago, I started getting emails about leadership. It is a month long subscription were you get one email per day. They were tips on how to become a better leader and to work well with your team. Some of them talked about things like focus, settings goals, and being yourself, but one that really stuck out to me was day 6, “Activate Courage!” It said that living creatively and courageously requires us to get out of our comfort zone. “By nudging people into discomfort you help activate courage.” We must reach to do new things and stretch the comfort zone.
This message stuck out to me because much of this internship I have been put out of my comfort zone. Last week we held the first ever D4LC. It was a retreat with middle and high school kids in which The Leadership Center staff led all of the meetings and sessions. We talked about the importance of community service, how to connect and network, proper dinner etiquette, and influence. I co-led the influence session with Maile. This definitely brought me out of my comfort zone as I talked in front of 60 people. Before the session I was very nervous but once we got started I was surprisingly comfortable. It was a great experience, and I think the kids that attended had a wonderful time as well. I look for D4LC to be a great thing for years to come.
Have a great day!!
