Many people do not know that The Leadership Center is a 501(3)(c) non-profit owned and operated by the Nebraska Vocational Agricultural Foundation (NVAF.) The NVAF is a board of directors made up of 10 Nebraska Agricultural Education teachers and 5 Nebraska business people in the areas of banking, law, accounting, as well as a business person from Lincoln and one from Omaha. While our board of directors are quite active with all the happenings of The Leadership Center, they are often behind the scenes and people don’t know them beyond name. So we are going to take some blog space to introduce to you our board members. We have asked each of them to answer a set of questions.
First up, our board president, Tom Hofmann.
Name: Tom Hofmann
Job & Location: Ag Ed Teacher and FFA Advisor at High Plains High School.
NVAF Board Position and how long you have served on the board? NVAF Board President. I am starting my 2nd Year as President. I served a term as a NAEA representative a long time ago. I have 5 years of board experience.
Favorite thing about TLC? My favorite thing about the Center is the legacy of how the center started and the vision for the future. Knowing that FFA has a purpose with the Center and this place is where agricultural students meet, develop leadership skills, and make lasting friendships with other students across the state.
Why you like serving on the board or what you are looking forward to doing while serving on the board? I feel Ag Educators have a responsibility to make sure this Center thrives as a place where the future of agriculture begins. The Leadership Center is the Disney World of Agriculture. Dreams can come true. I serve because it’s not about me, its about all those students who walk through our doors.
Anything else for the good of the cause? I would say that you cannot put a price tag on leadership development. Ideas that begin at this place will help change the world.
