Total Solar Eclispe

Total Solar EclipseWe have been prepping for over a year now for this great cosmic event. The Leadership Center is quite proud to be the landing place for so many coming to view this natural spectacle. We have reservations from all over the world with guests traveling in from as far as Denmark to view the total solar eclipse. It's all so exciting.


In preparation for this event, we have been working with an incredible community committee consisting of people from the Edgerton Explorit Science Center,  Hamilton Fairgrounds, Aurora Police Department, Aurora Public Schools, area churches and several local business people. Together, we have parking, satellite parking, telescopes, food, lodging and more.


For those staying with us at The Leadership Center in one of our lodge rooms, dorms or tent sites, here is what you need to know:

    • You will check-in at our front desk to get your keys, parking pass, parking spot, and viewing glasses as well as directions to your accommodations.
    • You MUST HAVE YOUR PARKING PASS visible on the dash of your car so that security knows you are our guest and not an unwanted visitor. All cars without permits will be towed at the owners expense.
    • We will have a cold continental breakfast available for purchase on Sunday & Monday morning from 7:00-9:00 a.m. in Mather Hall. Tickets are $6.00^ per person and can be purchased at the front desk. The cold continental breakfast will include: assorted cereals and milk, fresh baked pastries, toast & bagel station with assorted toppings, fresh fruit and boiled eggs. We will also have coffee and juice available.
    • On Sunday, we will have deli sandwich boxes with a sandwich, chips, an apple, cookie and water for $7.50^ per box.  Those will be available from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. We ask that these are pre-ordered by emailing businessmanager@tlcaurora.org  by Friday, August 18, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. CT
    • On Monday, we will have a hot dog feed from 10:30-Noon*. For $5.00^, get hot dog, chips and a bottle of water. *while supplies last.
    • Those who are tenting or in dorm lodging, your parking will be on the grass. You will receive your parking spot pass and parking spot # at check in.
    • MIcheala & Jane modeling solar eclipse viewing glasses. Our photo-bombers from the roof are Hamilton Telecommunications getting the internet set up for the eclipse.. Our pool will be available to swim on Sunday and Monday from 9:00 to Noon. Tickets to swim can be purchased at the front desk for $5.00 per ticket. We will have life guards on duty.
    • We do have a pond for catch and release fishing. We do have some poles for rent, but do not sell bait on grounds. To purchase bait, you can visit The Boondocks or T & L Liquor here in Aurora. Fishing will not be available on Monday from 10-11 due to a wedding taking place.
    • We also have sand volleyball courts, horseshoes, corn hole, ladder golf, giant Jenga and inside, and a gym for basketball or volleyball.
    • Aurora has a beautiful walking path that is easy to get to from our property. It is perfect for running and walks. One end comes out by Poco Creek Golf Course and the other loops through Streeter Park.

    • ^All funds raised from the sales of food will go towards the remodel of The Leadership Center Kitchen.
    • For those viewing the total solar eclipse on the property of The Leadership Center, Scientist Dan Glomski of the Edgerton Explorit Science Center will be our guide through the eclipse. He will also have telescopes to view from.

For those guests coming in on Monday, August 21st to view the total solar eclipse on our property but not staying with us must park off grounds and shuttle or walk in.
    • Parking will be available at two sites: the Hamilton County Fairgrounds located at 8th & A Street, Aurora and the Aurora Vet Clinic, 1704 Q Street, Aurora, NE.(Not available due to rain.)
    • Shuttles will run from the Hamilton Fairgrounds from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. and 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. They will take guests to and from The Leadership Center. These are free and are provided in partnership with The Edgerton Explorit Science Center , the Hamilton County Ag Society and Aurora Public Schools.
    • RV Parking is available at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds for $30 a night. There is not water or electricity available. Bathrooms are available. Camping is available starting Friday night and is first come, first serve.
    • Micheala modeling her amazing Eclipse Tshirt!Tenting is available at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds for $15. Bathrooms are available. Camping is available starting Friday night and is first come, first serve.
    • The Hamilton County Fairgrounds are also the overflow viewing site for The Leadership Center. Ron Haden will be your Total Eclipse Guide to take you through it.
    • All funds raised at the fairgrounds through camping will be donated to local organizations.
Again, those not staying on The Leadership Center Property, but plan to view the Total Solar Eclipse there, must park off grounds and either walk or shuttle in. Thank you.

 Other events to take in while during your visit to Aurora & Hamilton County:
  • Stars over Sherman Ranch on Saturday, August 19th from 9:00-11:00 p.m. View the beautiful Nebraska night sky over Sherman Ranch, near Marquette, NE. Telescopes will be set up for viewing Jupiter, Saturn and other celestial sites. Sherman Ranch is located at 2340 North "O" Road, Marquette. This event is free.   • Aurora and Dark Island Trail Walks on Sunday, August 20. The Nebraska Wanderfreaunde Trailblazers offer two fun walks open to the public. The morning walk starts at the Edgerton Explorit Center in Aurora, with an evening walk along the Dark Island Trail starting near Central City, NE. Walks cost $3 per person.   • Edgerton Explorit Center will be open on Saturday from 9-5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. They will be closed on Monday, August 21st as they will be assisting with Eclipse events at The Leadership Center and the Hamilton County Fairgrounds and other sites.
  • Aurora Area Chamber and Development will be onsite handing out viewing glasses while supplies last at both The Leadership Center and the Hamilton Fairgrounds. Eclipse glasses are provided by the Edgerton Explorit Science Center. AACD will also be selling Eclipse Shirts for $20 for small, medium, large, extra large, and $25 for extended sizes. They are only excepting checks or cash for these. On Sunday from 4:30-7:00 p.m. Hamburger Feed on the Square. For $5 you will get a burger, chips and a drink. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy music from Mikes Mobile Music. There is also a watermelon feed at the same time and the community band will be playing! On Monday at the Bremer Center from 7-10 a.m. the AACD is hosting a pancake feed! It's $5.00.
  • In Hampton, Nebraska (6 miles east of Aurora on Hwy 34): Events begin on August 21st at 9:30 at North Baseball Field, West Park. Admission is $2.00 which will get you admittance, viewing glasses, and a commemorative bracelet. The Star Spangled Banner will be sung at 11:00 a.m. followed by a scientific explanation of the eclipse. At 11:30 the Omaha Tribe: Ritual Eclipse Dances-Honoring Nebraska's 150th Year of Statehood. At 11:35 Darkness Begins. Astronaut Clay Anderson arrives via helicopter & presents "Dare to be Extraordinary." 12:59 p.m. the Eclipse Totality begins and ends at 1:04 p.m. At 1:04 there will be fireworks and then the Newcombe Solar Eclipse Magic Show.
