Introducing the Creatives Book Club

This is something I’ve wanted to start for a long time.

But like many creative ideas, it sat on the “someday” list for quite a while. Between busy schedules (a convenient excuse), wondering if I was really a creative (another excuse), and occasionally questioning whether what I do counts as art or is “just a craft or hobby” (hello, imposter syndrome), the idea kept getting pushed aside.

The thing is, creativity isn’t something reserved for a special category of people. It’s something that grows when we practice it, talk about it, and explore it together. I’m excited to say I’ve finally pushed past at least part of those excuses and doubts—and I’m hoping to meet other creatives who are also looking to grow in their creative journey through books and conversation.

So we’re launching the Creatives Book Club!

Beginning in April 2026, this book club will gather the 1st and 3rd Saturday mornings of each month at 9:30 a.m. for thoughtful conversation, creative encouragement, and community. Each month we’ll read a book focused on creativity, artistic process, and the joys and challenges of making things.

Whether you paint, draw, write, craft, design, or simply enjoy exploring creativity, this group is designed to inspire and support your creative life. Together we’ll discuss ideas like overcoming creative blocks, developing artistic habits, finding your creative voice, and sharing your work with confidence.

What We'll Be Reading

Throughout the year we’ll explore a variety of books about creativity, including favorites like:

  • Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon
  • Art & Fear by David Bayles and Ted Orland
  • Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott
  • Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Along with several other thoughtful titles that explore the creative journey from different perspectives.

Each book will give us new ideas to discuss and new ways to approach our own creative practices.

A Flexible Book Club

We hope you’ll consider committing to reading along with us throughout the year, but we also know that life is busy. If you miss a meeting or fall behind in the reading, that’s okay—join us whenever you can! You are always welcome at the conversation.

This group is meant to be supportive, encouraging, and relaxed. Our time together will include discussion, creative reflection, and occasionally a short creative exercise to spark new ideas.

In-Person and Online Options

The Creatives Book Club will be led by Maile, who will guide the discussions and creative prompts throughout the year.

You are welcome to attend either in person, online, or both, depending on what works best for your schedule.

Join the Creative Conversation

Creative work can sometimes feel solitary, but it doesn’t have to be. This book club is an opportunity to connect with others who are exploring their creativity, share ideas, and encourage one another along the way.

If you’re looking for inspiration, creative community, and meaningful conversation about the creative process, we’d love for you to join us.

Come explore the art of making together.

PS If you are going to purchase a book for bookclub online, we encourage you to check out Bookshop.org, your local independant bookstore or your local library!

P.P.S. I have chosen 12 books. I don't intend to meet the month of December. Whether you join me for 1 book, 3 books, or all 12, I look foward to meeting you!
