Nancy Perucca, Artist Educator

Artist and Educator

Nancy Perucca loves color, curiosity, and creative play. A Colorado Springs–based artist and instructor, she happily flits from medium to medium and currently enjoys working with watercolor, acrylic, and alcohol inks. She is especially drawn to the magic of watercolor—watching rich pigment bloom and rush across wet paper never gets old.

Nancy teaches art classes in her home studio, a journey that began with what she fondly calls “naive optimism.” When she first started teaching, her father asked, “Who said you could do that?”—but when classes were offered, people came. She has been teaching and discovering ever since.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University with an emphasis in art and taught elementary school before continuing her creative path. Nancy has illustrated and co-authored six children’s educational books with her sister, blending visual learning with playful, unorthodox approaches—especially for right-brained learners.

Nancy believes painting offers a much-needed pause from everyday life. As she says, “Everyone needs a quiet vacation from life each time they paint!”  She looks forward to sharing that sense of joy, curiosity, and calm with participants at June Art Jam.

Workshop Description:

Discover the joy and magic of watercolor in this beginner-friendly workshop led by artist and educator Nancy Perucca. Designed for beginners and curious learners, the class invites participants to explore watercolor as both a playful and peaceful process.

Students will learn fundamental techniques—working with pigment, water control, layering, and color—while embracing experimentation and “happy accidents.” Nancy’s encouraging, curiosity-driven teaching style makes this class ideal for those new to watercolor or artists looking to loosen up and rediscover creative joy.

Each day includes guided instruction, demonstrations, and hands-on studio time in a supportive, relaxed environment. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to slow down, explore, and enjoy a “quiet vacation from life” through painting.
