Print Making

Cindy McClellan, Artist Instructor

Artist and Educator

Cindy McClellan is an Aurora, Nebraska–based artist and instructor who has been active in the regional arts scene since the mid-1990s. She is a member of the Clements Noyes Art Gallery in Lincoln, where she is known for her signature BeNt Shadows wall art—three-dimensional mixed-media works that explore the quiet beauty of light, shadow, and simple sculptural forms.

Primarily a sculptor, Cindy’s work often begins with bendable plywood and metal, evolving through a process of experimentation and “happy accidents” that allow shadows to bend, shift, and transform throughout the day. Inspired by natural contours, open landscapes, and weathered spaces—particularly the rolling hills of western Nebraska—her art reflects a sense of calm, movement, and continual change.

Cindy is a teaching artist on the Nebraska Arts Council roster for the Creative Aging Arts Program. She enjoys sharing accessible, hands-on techniques and frequently teaches workshops in printmaking, including monoprinting, gel plate printing, and block printing, encouraging participants to explore process, play, and discovery.

Workshop Description:

Cindy McClellan teaches three different printmaking techniques. These include mono-printing, gel-printing plate printing, and linoleum block printing with a focus on creativity, hands-on experience, and techniques.

By learning these three methods, students will experience a spectrum of approaches within printmaking—from the intuitive and spontaneous to the methodical and deliberate. Monoprinting and gel plate printing encourage playful exploration of color and texture, while linocut emphasizes design, carving, and repetition. Starting with monoprinting allows students to learn printing terminology and the basics of using the tools. Together, these techniques provide a well-rounded foundation for understanding printmaking as both a technical and expressive art form.
