TLC Welcome's Interns on Their First Day with SFSP
Good food and good conversation with good people! Our intern staff put these words into action today by supplying lunches to the communities of Aurora, Central City, and Marquette. The Nebraska Department of Education Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) kicked off for the summer starting Monday, May 28, 2024! Through SFSP, our non-profit organization can prepare meals for youth in communities with need. Our interns attended a training seminar to prepare themselves, as they are new to this helpful program.
The intern team and culinary staff jumped into routine this morning, preparing a healthy and tasty lunch for SFSP. It was all hands-on deck, as interns helped prepare and package the healthy meals! The team then divided off to serve each of our locations, providing tasty meals and bright smiles. All while building relationships within the community. Interns Emily Willis and Rebecca Ford helped in Central City, while Michelle Montenegro, Kylee Kort, and Samuel Kubunga remained in Aurora. Big thanks to volunteer Opal Christensen who managed the program in Marquette. The Leadership Center extends a huge thank you to all volunteers and staff who do their part in uniting our communities through delicious food and conversation!
“It was very fulfilling to see all the kids that came to the park eat lunch and play games together!” - Emily Willis, D4LC/TLC 2024 Intern
