2024 T.L.C. Fall Art Workshop Artist Instructor
Nancy Perucca loves watercolor. She has a passion for watercolor and loves to watch a rush of strong pigment flood onto wet paper. When a painting nears completion, she asks herself two questions: “What can I still learn? and “What do I have to lose?” It’s at this point the painting is pushed to new levels or thrown away. It’s always a risk that provides an adrenaline rush.
Nancy earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from in Utah from Brigham Young University in 1981. She taught grade 1st and 3rd grade for six years before traveling with her Air Force husband to the wide blue yonder.
Nancy has illustrated and co-authored six children’s educational books with her sister. One book is used in a California prison system to teach inmates visual ways to learn multiplication facts. She enjoys using unorthodox ways to teach math to right-brained learners.
While waiting to adopt a baby, Nancy painted custom family trees as a side gig. Each painted branch held a unique family member that overflowed with heirlooms and interests. After many years this quiet hobby took a crazy turn in the fast lane. Nancy was asked to use these talents to create promotional products for a national direct-selling company. She designed many products including stationery, postcards, rubber art stamps, and stickers. After 14 years she happily left the corporate superhighway. She learned that owning your own business is similar to natural childbirth...highly overrated.
When Nancy started teaching art in her home studio her father asked her “Who said you could do that?” But when she offered art classes, people came. Her naive optimism has served her well. She always has a new discovery in watercolor. Nancy’s friend gave her an honorary degree in “Watercolor Forensics”. The friend explains that Nancy enjoys using detective skills to decipher various watercolor processes.
Her largest painting has been turned into a round nativity puzzle that includes each of her grandchildren. It contains five scenes that depict the nativity journey with symbolism and a story in every object. She enjoys watching other families create traditions by putting the puzzle together every year.
Nancy hopes to continue teaching and sharing her enthusiasm for painting. “Everyone needs a quiet vacation from life each time they paint! Let’s put miles behind the brush and enjoy every minute learning together.”
